Webmin alternative: enconf as a ready-made hosting platform

Webmin is a free, modular admin tool for individual Linux servers — without a built-in customer/domain model for website hosting. enconf is a multi-server hosting platform with customer and reseller management from day one.

In short

enconf is a ready-made multi-server hosting platform with a customer/reseller model, WordPress/Joomla/PrestaShop toolkits and security tooling. Webmin is a free, modular admin tool for individual servers without a built-in hosting customer model — for website hosting, most people add Virtualmin (a Webmin module) on top, which we compare separately.

Resources, cost & migration

Resource usage

enconf: under 75 MB RAM (controller + agent, ~63 MB real)
Webmin: low (Perl-based)

License model

enconf: commercial — 14-day free trial
Webmin: free (open source); commercial support optional.

Migration effort

Webmin itself doesn't manage "websites" in the hosting sense, so there is no direct 1:1 import. If sites/email/DNS are already set up via modules (Apache/Nginx, Postfix, BIND), migration works like other manual setups: websites/databases via backup, email via IMAP migration, DNS re-created/imported.

Frequently asked questions

Is Webmin the same as a hosting panel?

Not directly: Webmin is a general server management tool without a customer/domain model. For website hosting, most people add Virtualmin on top (separate comparison: enconf vs. Virtualmin). enconf is built from day one as a multi-server hosting platform with a customer and reseller model.

Can I migrate a Webmin server to enconf?

Depends on what is set up on the server via modules: websites/databases via backup, email via IMAP migration, DNS re-created/imported — like other manually managed setups.
